Foundation
How we started
Active Oversight was born out of real frustration on real jobsites.
In 2003, Wayne and Erica Smith founded Vertex Innovations after Verizon Wireless asked them to integrate a major mobile switching center. What started as one high-stakes project quickly revealed a bigger problem: field teams were drowning in paperwork, disconnected tools, and inconsistent quality data. Closeouts dragged on for weeks, small issues became expensive rework, and leadership had zero real-time visibility.
Drawing on more than 20 years of hands-on experience managing over 30,000 projects across telecom infrastructure, data centers, and complex construction, we built Active Oversight as its proprietary quality management platform.
We didn’t design it from a conference room — we built it in the field, for the field. The result is a mobile-first system that standardizes inspections, enables true offline work, and delivers instant closeouts — turning reactive quality control into a proactive advantage.
